DixieFriedMusic.com
Jackson, TN – January 2009
Why another web site? Because there is distinctive music legacy in
West Tennessee outside Shelby County. And those stories should be
told.
Beneath the international fame of Tina Turner, Carl Perkins and others
there are the root life sources that influenced the music and countless
performers, writers, producers, promoters that emerged from this region.
Haywood Blues of Yank Rachel, Sleepy John Estes and Hammie Nixon;
Rockabilly/Country work of Carl Mann, Scotty Moore, Rayburn Anthony,
W. S. Holland; Rock poetry of John Kilzer; the total innovation of John
Lee “Sonny Boy” Williamson; the international work of Big Maybelle;
there are stories here, historic and contemporary, that merit attention,
understanding and appreciation.
The region’s root influences still breath into the contemporary work of
Jessica Andrews, Fuel, 45 South (Justin Bowers) and others. There are
many names to be added to those above.
It’s an endless material source.
Those stories will be told here and events to capture
this history or reflect this region will be promoted here.
“Let’s all get Dixie Fried.”
